I hate it when people tell me things..

My boss told me today that they will be letting my assistant go. He had extended out her temp assignment as much as possible, but they will be posting an opening for her position next week.

I am not supposed to tell her, which would be fine, except she is my son's girlfriend and she lives with me. I want to tell her so that she can start applying to jobs as soon as possible, but my son said it could hurt my own job.

Which then made me wonder if this is happening because I got the job I applied for or if they are going to sack me too. Lol

I guess I should have asked.

I really don’t miss the corporate cloak and dagger routines like that. I was put in the “here’s what we’re going to do but don’t tell the people you work with every day” position more than a few times. It stinks. Your situation sounds infinitely more complicated due to the personal implications. If I were in your predicament, I’d also want to know what it meant for me. Since it sounds like decisions have already been made, do you think you’re on firm enough footing to ask your manager the questions you want to ask?

@BamPow He did tell me today that I am an amazing admin assistant, so there is that. Anything he asks me to do gets done. So, who knows

@FoxyQueen There are much worse things to hear at work than being called amazing, so you should feel pretty good about that.

@BamPow If nothing else, he can be a reference 😁

A very difficult to position to be in. I wonder why they felt the need to tell you in the first place? If it's confidential, it's confidential.

@FreddieUK Yeah, I don't know either. It was weird, but I think he was worried that I would think he had made the decision when it was made above him, as he said several times he wasn't the bad guy in this case. I know he hates having to fire anyone, so I'm assuming that he was upset about it as well, but wanted to let me know he had tried to keep her.

If you were her. And she was you. Would you want her to tell you?
FoxyQueen · 51-55, F
@Infamous607 That is where I am at as well. I just know that currently, she is dealing with the pain of a broken leg, is not currently working because of it and the loss of a job will add to her stress levels. In some ways, it feels like one more thing to add to her mountain of things to worry about.
