Hiring me people

I hate hiring new people. No one wants to work anymore.

Our pay is good. We're not the highest paying warehouse around but not the lowest either.

We are Monday-friday
We don't have a peak season.
We rarely have over time.
The work isn't hard and we don't ship much over 30 lbs.

But still can't find good people that want to work. New people that just started call in on their second week. They go one lunch and text the supervisor they had a issue and can't come back. They leave a early because they have PTO and can use it when ever they want. They take extra breaks, listen to music and make so many mistakes.

But I can't do anything about it. I report this to my supervisor and he just says it's how things are now.

Is it really how things are now.

When we get new workers they are on their phones constantly, eyes down, not concentrating on what is going on around them. Heavy industry is dangerous and many of them are simply not looking, not aware.
Bosses have actually said if we were to ban phones in the workplace then the new ones would quit.
They also have said - It is the way it is now.

@Gusman you are not wrong my friend. We aren't allowed to wear earbuds but the main office gave everyone airpod 2 as a thank you gift for 2022. How are you supposed to tell people that you can't wear them when they give them to you
