Why don’t kids ever listen to me when I give them a direction but listen to the other teachers? How do I get kids to listen if I work at a new place?
When I worked at a special Ed school before I reassigned, I mean I would play and interact with them but when I tell them to not run in the classroom, they just give me a whatever look and keeps doing it. When the teacher and other two staff tells them, they listened. Like “REALLY?” They laughed at me or don’t take me seriously when I ask or give them a direction. That hurts and upsets me. My sister told me it’s because I am “NICE”. I need to start being the “mean” teacher and give them some tough love. Make them listen and earn things otherwise they won’t respect me and she did warn me about that. My sister is a kind, but tough as nails, no nonsense teacher and she isn’t afraid to put her students in her place when they are out of control. Even some people see how “Nice” I am.
I got blamed for letting kids do what they want and I’m not “mean enough”
I saw three students running in the hallway, I told them, “Excuse me? Do not run in the hall way.” They gave me dirty, and nasty looks. They laughed and kept running. Another staff came out and scolded at them, “Walking feet” and they stopped and walked. Man I’m glad I left that job. Kids don’t listen to me ever.
When I was walking a kid to his mother, he yelled, “Mommy” and ran out the street. I ran after him so he wouldn’t get ran over. The child was like, “Get away from me. I don’t want you anymore. And pushed my hand away and yelled “mommy”. She gives him but told him I need to be respectful to his teacher.
