First day back at work and I had to chew this new kid out...

He's very political, obnoxiously so... I'm willing to tolerate that to a point, but what I will not tolerate is him making homophobic remarks like he just did. That goes double for my assistant Bryanna - a lesbian - and also myself - a bi woman. I gave him a stern talking-to that I told him I do not want to have again. You don't have to like LGBT people, but you do that on your own time, not while you're at work. He insists it was just a joke and apologized, so at least there was that much... He's 16, so I'm willing to let this slide as typical immaturity, but he has not left a good first impression on me. I hate to say it, but he hasn't.

A lot of people say they are only joking when they get called out on their bigotry. Hopefully he was actually just making a misguided joke and that's the end of it

@deadgerbil I’m not sure what to make of it. It could have been, but just as easily could’ve been serious. But he referred to the LGBT community as “the fags” in a dismissive context and joking or no, that’s not okay.
