Job help !!

Need help with a new job decision.

I currently make $13.20/hr as a preachool classroom aid/elementary before and after care worker. I work about 45-50 hours total. I get sick leave but no benefits, no hope for a raise. I've only been there since October 2021.

I was offered a position at another preschool. $14/hr with full benefits and PTO.

That being said, I don't need the benefits. I have military insurance for medical through my dad and decent dental insurance through my stepmom. (Nurse). I'm on both until I'm 26.

I have a wonderful relationship to the kids at my school and love them all. They're also very attached to me. There are MANY violations we could be shut down for anyday now. I don't want name dragged in the mud. We are also very understaffed.

I've been debating for over a week on leaving or not. I don't particularly like my boss but we can chat without hostility.

As of now, I'm thinking of staying until the end of the year. I'll be getting my teachers assistant certification with my tax return and starting next year I plan on working full time at an elementary school.

What should I do?

❤ Stay, you have a plan. Just tough it out till June

😆 Leave, it's a better opportunity.

Normally I would say get the benefits, even though you are covered until age 26 because that age will come quicker than you expect. But since you have an alternate plan anyway for a certificate and new job next year, I would say go with your heart. And it sounds like your heart is sticking with the kids who seem to be very vulnerable. You most likely feel a lot of guilt if you didn't; particularly if the school runs into further problems and/or staffing losses. And $1/hr for less than 5 months is not going to be that big a windfall.

Follow your heart. Do what you won’t regret.

At the very least, if you decide to leave, have another position rest to step into... Would be better to stay and get the certification though
