What do some medical professionals have against the very obese?

My wife just spent 10 days in hospital and at 689 lbs this is a vey daunting prospect.her basic needs were going to have to be done by a stranger not mer husband. Now a lot of the staff were very caring and fantastic there were some who seemed to dislike her straight away
Pointed comments
Not talking to her but about her like she was an object
Little quips
Questions like don’t you want to be healthy
That she was a drain on everyone.
It just seemed unnecessary when someone is already uncomfortable and scares.
So what’s the problem

@Willomk1 regardless of what shift they are working, they need to be professional and put themselves or a loved one in the patients place.... Would they want their loved one treated like that!

In the hospital, you are a case number, some doctors seem to forget that there is a person who is that case. That we've feelings, can hear their comments made to other professionals and feel their judgemental attitudes.... I'm sorry the professionals treated you both that way.

Is it they are repulsed by the size.
Do they feel that the person neglects their own health
Is it they feel the problems are self inflicted.
Is it the work involved in providing them care.
Do they feel very large people are a drain on all.
Sounds like how they treat any patient with an eating disorder (there’s no way you get that big without one).

It’s very true having had no experience with anorexia but some with bulimia and a lot of compulsive ,binge eating disorder.is it similar for the eating disorders at the other end of the spectrum@MorbidCynic
@Willomk1 my ed began with binge eating, so I would agree. I was morbidly obese by the time I was 11. Food can be addictive and a source of punishment. She should really get help for that before the damage become irreversible.
