Absolutely stunned to hear that USA has the most maternal deaths in the world.

And that 4 times as many black women die than white women.

"In fact black women are 243% more likely to die from a pregnancy than a white woman."

That was a quote by Joe Kennedy iii

So i looked it up in the uk and black women here are also 4 times as more likely to die, and asian women twice as likely to die.

What can be done to safeguard these women?

I thought it was relative to other wealthy nations. Still tho, there's no excuse for it. Healthcare isn't prioritized in this country bc that is sOcIaLisM. Couple that with the continued assaults on planned Parenthood which provides a ton of services related to women's health. It's embarrassing how regressive the US can be
@deadgerbil Planned Parenthood provided birth control, cancer screenings and prenatal care for low-income women. Abortions were a very small percentage of the services performed. When I was a volunteer, we sometimes escorted pregnant women past screaming, cursing, jeering (mostly male) protestors who didn’t know the women were there for prenatal care—not abortions.

And when these terrorists did get facilities shut down they were depriving the women and the unborn that they supposedly cared about, of healthcare. 😞

@bijouxbroussard so many people lose critical thinking in their crusade for the unborn

My grandmother told me how she needed an abortion bc she took medication to get rid of a tumor on her neck and it messed with her birth control causing her to get pregnant, but the fetus was all deformed so abortion it was the only choice. And she had to go through a crowd of protestors calling her every name in the book for making the only logical decision to get rid of it

@deadgerbil i think generally healthcare in the US is of an exceptional standard worldwide....which is why this statistic is so shocking
@deadgerbil I’m so sorry. And not a one of those people would’ve adopted or supported that child, had it been born. 😞
@BabyLonia It is if you can afford it. That’s the problem. If you’re not destitute, for example, if you work a job that doesn’t provide coverage, you may earn too much money for public assistance.
