Do you have diabetes in your genetics/ancestry?
rupert · 41-45, M
Since December 2016 I have lost 50 lbs.

The way I did this was to assess my metabolic syndrome. My family has rampant diabetes.
It suggests that I too am insulin resistant.

To this end I cut out all flour and sugar from my diet. The only carbohydrates I eat are seeds, nuts and green vegetables (the boring kinds yes I know). My diet as tracked for the past 6 months has been 75% fat, 20-23% protein and 2-5% carbohydrates (again this non-flour, non-sugar carbohydrates). It's very easy for me to maintain this regimen because I get to eat lots of butter, red meat, bacon, eggs and all of the alleged 'no-no' foods.

This diet is best described as 'Ketogenic.' Again, because I am insulin resistant, this diet melted the weight off my body. I only started exercising in the last 2 months. Most of the weight was lost with just the dietary change. The only downside besides being lean for the first time in about 10 years is that the very first 4 days of this diet were hell. My body was addicted to sugar and flour and I went through a fatigued and grumpy withdrawal period. After that I noticed my energy was more consistent throughout the days.

Keep us posted and feel free to msg me if you have any other questions.

@rupert: Nobody that I know of has diabetes

@ImnotAngela: it may or may not work for you. My partner tried this diet and it did not result in extreme weight loss.

I should add that I have blood work twice and my triglycerides have fallen to less than half of the allowable maximum.

As far as exercise goes. Get a kettle bell. It's high intensity and works wonders for slimming down.

There's no such thing as spot reduction so the only way to lose that last bit is to reduce your overall weight. You seem to know how to do that: eat less and move more.

What can you do to get more movement in? Walking, running, cycling, swimming, weights? Also do you have some bad eating habits that make the weight go up?

@Wilbury: Well I could work out more. But my job requires me to walk all the time. but i probably should run or something. I am not the worlds healthiest eater but I am also not bad either. I dont dink soda very often because I dont like it so I pretty much only drink water. I guess I eat a lot of bread though and I love sweets. But I love salads and all that maybe I should eat salads for one or 2 meals every day.

@ImnotAngela: that would help. There's ways to add protein to salads: meat, nuts, fish. It is hard to exercise after work if you have a physical job.

I heard what worked was daily prayer to help you with temptation. Get out and exercise. Don't keep bad foods in house. Eat clean; less carb, more protein and water.

How tall are you. I'm a little bit on the bigger side but it's part of my statue
