It was a fly-by thunderstorm.

First notice, very loud thunderclap that announced a very bright lightning strike. The apartment lit up and the heavy rain slammed against the windows, drummed across the roof, hit the front porch roof and raced across the parking lot and was gone. Less than thirty seconds, start to finish.

Strange.
