Why, with global warming, has there been rain here in UK with temperatures under 20C throughout Summer?

I think the approach by science and activists regarding climate change has been misguided. Arguments over the validity were always going to split public opinion and any forecasts about global disaster were bound to experience pushback (just as any arguments about Brexit by the remain camp were labelled "Project Fear" by the anti-EU leave supporters, who won out in the referendum). Added to that, big predictions of certain doom were going to be laughed off when the time came and the world didn't actually end. Climate change deniers were always going to jump on a few false claims to prove the entire debate was a hoax.

A much better approach would have been to say, "Look, it's agreed that the globe's fossil fuels will be severely depleted by 2060. Look at your children and your grandchildren. Can we all agree that we need to start switching to new forms of green, clean energy so we can secure their comfort and safety when they grow and have families of their own? Let's work together to make a start on our global move away from fossil fuels, for the sake of our kids."

That might have coalesced into an intelligent consensus of opinion, dampened down any friction and opened a way for people with radically different views to work towards something positive for the future generations. Warning people and waggling a finger never works. Doomsayers get laughed at and ridiculed as End-of-the-World pseudoscience cranks and/or authoritarian grifters after more tax revenues. Now, our grandchildren might look back at us and say, "Thanks for using it all and leaving us with nothing."
