@bijouxbroussard we had a announced one a couple of months ago for around 4 hours after midnight. Then another about 1 a year ago during the summer. That one was unannounced and was a rolling blackout. Mostly based on area power usage.
Basically we have had one once every year. Some short others long. Yet not as bad as it was when I was in the mountains. That actually was real bad. The power mostly came from Arizona. Which is totally weird since Arizona is pretty far away from those mountains.
I have always had plenty of candles because of them.
@DeWayfarer Yea I am in Texas and we have had a few black outs over the past couple of years not including many weather related grid failures that lasted very long ( days to a week).
@DeWayfarer I suppose it depends on what part of the state. We’ve been relatively lucky, PG&E advised us that it was possible but here it’s only been once since they notified us. One of my friends lost her home in the San Bruno pipeline disaster that brought those massive lawsuits against PG&E. It’s why they implemented rolling blackouts in some areas. They presented it as a "safety" measure but a lot see it as punitive.
@bijouxbroussard the community in the mountains had decades ago to separate from SoCal Edison because of lack of service to the area. So they formed a co-op and sent out bids all over.
I guess the one that got the contract was better yet marginally better really. Cheaper yet less maintenance.
Personally I believe that was a huge mistake. The brown outs are really bad and as well quite a few blackouts.
