I've seen a tiny bit of reporting about his "manifesto" mentioning his support of a gun rights advocate for president, but it didn't explain anything about his motives.
I'm not so sure that trying to understand the shooter is the right approach to reducing the killing of children. I think better gun control is more likely to reduce the killings.
It's very depressing that firearms have been the leading cause of death for US children and teens since 2020, representing 19% of all deaths for children 18 years and younger in 2021. School shootings get the most headlines, but I think the ready availability of guns is driving the numbers.

@ElwoodBlues CAN'T WE IMPROVE GUN CONTROL AND TRY TO UNDERSTAND WHY THEY DO THIS? sorry for yelling, but there is no reason why we can't do both

@ElwoodBlues At what point is it forecrest that all the prayers we hear about after these mass shootings will actually work and the problem will be solved?
I have to think these prayers must be the answer otherwise guns would have been banned decades ago.

@ElwoodBlues I agree largely but the why matters in the sense that we absolutely need comprehensive mental health care in the US. And we need to destigmatize mental illness
So in that regard the why also matters

@LILY61 Absolutely correct! There is no legitimate reason that automatic weapons, large capacity magazines bump stocks, hollow point ammo, etc. should be legal. None!
There are no legitimate rationales for NOT having mandatory background checks, waiting periods, etc. for gun licenses.
There need to be tighter control of gun shows, laws in place to halt ghost guns, etc.
The NRA and similar organizations should be banned from contributing to political campaigns.
These are sensible first steps.

@EBSVC Because we as a society let that happen!
I have been deployed in several southwest Asian countries where guns simply were not allowed. It not surprising that there were virtually no human deaths or serious injuries going back decades from gun related violence…BUT here is the real point, there were virtually NO deaths or serious injuries going back decades from ANYTHING that could be used as a deadly weapon. Partly cultural, but a very large part of this is the immediacy of guns, the degree of lethality we allow those guns to have, the slack rules & regulations we place on their ownership, and the simple fact that there are just too damn many of them!
There needs to be responsible gun control regulations nationwide.

@ElwoodBlues I Think your analysis is spot on and your graphs really illustrate not only the scope of the problem, but a lot of the underlying issues and the need for national, rational gun control.
Assault weapons are not hunting weapons. Their purpose is to kill and cause grave bodily injury. Why would any sane American wish to further those goals upon our children?
We need a return to sane government; not the insanity of the corrupt tRUMP misadministration!
