JD Vance, in his bullet proof box with his armed guards around him yesterday, was telling Americans that school shootings are just a fact of life. SAD!!

Yes, dozens of your children will be needlessly killed in school this year, but that's sacrifice the GQP is willing to make to keep the support of the gun lobby.
What can be done? Start by holding the GQP and the gun lobby accountable!!

@ElwoodBlues I think he was saying that we have to step up and address it, not just resign ourselves to having dead kids. But you knew that already - you just want Vance to look bad.

@joe438 What he's NOT saying is anything about HOW to address it. He's NOT saying anything about common sense gun safety. He's continuing to echo the NRA pretense that guns make us safer while his actions say the opposite. I'm surprised that level of hypocrisy doesn't give his followers whiplash.

@ElwoodBlues Other than taking away sport rifles that are styled to look military, what are the Democrats suggesting? Most states already have laws that prohibit crazy people from owning weapons. Guns must be stored safely in homes or else the homeowners are responsible.
Not all crazies are going to be walking into a school like Rambo - if you want to stop all shootings you need to make the shooters think twice before coming into the school. The Democrats are opposed to any security measures except the "assault weapon" ban and Kamala's mandatory buyback that she's pretending she didn't suggest in 2019.
Personally, I'm for metal detectors at the doors, and armed personnel where shooters least expect it. But I'm not on either side here and I have no input.

So you're telling me you've never looked into it? Interesting.@joe438 says

DEAD WRONG. Most of those school shooters are planning to end their lives via suicide by cop.Democrats are opposed to any security measures except the "assault weapon" ban and Kamala's mandatory buyback that she's pretending she didn't suggest in 2019.
Now you're telling me you've never looked into it but you're pretending you did, LOL!!!Personally, I'm for metal detectors at the doors, and armed personnel where shooters least expect it.
And when it comes time to pay for all these security measures, the gun lovers all vote NO, too expensive. And then the next school shooting comes along. Rinse and repeat at infinitum.

@ElwoodBlues I live in Eastern MA and this comes up periodically in school budgets. We're run by Democrats and it all comes down to money. We can't pay for detectors, we can't pay for extra guards, we don't want the kids to be afraid of guns so none can be in the school, so we'll do nothing. They have no plan. And the bulk of taxpaying people in the Boston general area are not "gun lovers".
You don't want to fix it. You want to complain about Republicans not fixing it.

@joe438 So what are the budget estimates, per taxpayer, for adding armed guards and metal detectors to every school in a town?
joe438 · 61-69, M
@ElwoodBlues that’s not my area of expertise. School boards take up these issues for their own schools.

@joe438 Quora has this estimate:
I think it makes the most sense to levy a tax per year per gun to pay for the $27 billion to guard schools against guns. There are an estimated 500 million guns in circulation in the US, so $54 per gun per year should do the job.
There are 135,000 schools in America. Even assuming each one only required 2 guards (so that one of them could be on break, or on vacation, or take sick days) that’s 270,000 guards. Assuming their total cost of employment, salary, benefits (health insurance, retirement, taxes, etc.) is $100,000 that would be $27,000,000,000 ($27 billion per year)
