At least four people killed after high school shooting in Winder, Georgia

(CNN) The gunman who opened fire Wednesday morning inside Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, is believed to be a 14-year-old boy, a law enforcement source tells CNN.

The source said it is not yet known whether the teen attended that school.

The suspect is alive and in custody, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a post on X.

Four people were killed in the shooting, according to the GBI. Nine others were transported to hospitals with injuries.

Law enforcement sources said earlier approximately 30 people were injured in the shooting. It was unclear how many of those injuries are from gunshot wounds; the information is preliminary and subject to change.

And here comes the thoughts and prayers.

This is the Congressman who reps that district. Mike Collins.

Leigh Ann and I are praying for the victims, their families, and all students at Apalachee High School in Barrow County.

Yeah. Sure you are.

Many Americans love their guns more than they love their children.

@badminton Sadly true.

So much could be done:

Assault weapon bans

Outlaw high capacity magazines

Outlaw bump stocks

Close gunshow and other loopholes

Universal background checks

Mandatory waiting periods

Remove the violent rhetoric from the media

Red Flag Laws

Gun violence: the number 1 cause of pediatric and young adult deaths in America today.

@KunsanVeteran In this state you can buy guns and ammo at garage sales.
KunsanVeteran · 61-69, M
@Crazywaterspring Unfortunately there is nowhere that you can buy a child’s life to give back to their grieving parents and family…
Firearms have been the leading cause of death for US children and teens since 2020, representing 19% of all deaths for children 18 years and younger in 2021.

@ElwoodBlues I notice the states that are supposedly swarming with illegals are not at the top of the list.

It is people like Mike Collins who enable school shootings and glorify guns.

Georgia state Sen. Elena Parent, a Democrat, called for gun control measures in her own post on social media: “As we learn more about what happened, one thing is certain: lax gun laws fuel the horror of school shootings. We owe it to our kids to not have to live like this.”

@Colormegone Donald J. Trump: NEVER part of the solution

ALWAYS a major part of the problem

They say guns don't kill people. I'm pretty sure he didn't use his bare hands.

Here in Australia, when the story was reported on my local news early this morning, the newsreader had a kind of slightly weary "here we go again" tone in her voice.

@Crazywaterspring The “definition” of a mass casualty event is four or more victims.

A lot of problems with that “definition” when one preventable death is too many!
craig7 · 70-79, M
@Ynotisay Yes,it's not a great reputation to have, though I would add that we have had a number of mass shooting events in Australia over the years.Back in 1996,35 people were killed in a mass shooting which at the time, was a grim world record for the number of deaths in a single event.

I live in a state where schools are not open to public at all . If you want to pick up your child you call before and when you get to the door its locked 🔒 you push a button that a inercome asnwers you from the front office . You also give out the main contact information who will be picking up their kid. We also have cops guarding the school .
KunsanVeteran · 61-69, M
@Fa8393 Sounds like a prison more than a school.

You live in a state that is more willing to let the deranged have their weapons of war (these are NOT LEGITIMATE HUNTING GUNS OR RECREATIONAL GUNS—they have one purpose—TO END ANOTHER’S LIFE).

You should move to another state—your’s has already failed!
@KunsanVeteran Locking a school or arming a teacher is simply saying we absolutely do not care how many kids are killed because we want even more guns sold......................but you are free to compensate for our lack of care by putting locks on your doors.

Wither you like gun rights or not , its not about the guns . Its about the safty and leadership of the state .

@Jackrules The question is, are mentally ill people being manipulated as MAGA Cultists to end democracy and install King Trump in office? Or are the mentally ill just Trump supporters because they love guns more than their children?

@Jackrules Bill Cooper? Seriously?

@Jackrules These shootings will happen forever unless something changes. Do you support doing nothing, or are you part of the solution?
