A man armed with multiple guns and large amounts of ammunition shot at police officers from both the upper and lower levels of a suburban Minneapolis home on Sunday, killing two officers and a firefighter, authorities said.

A third officer was wounded in the shooting in Burnsville. The suspect in the shooting also died, officials said.

Ownership of automatic weapons and their ammunition should be heavily regulated, licenced, and limited to between the ages of 21 and 70. To have such a device they must be american citizens, be registered, pass a physical, go through specialized training, undergo semi-annual testing, and have background checks. Random inspection should also be part of the process. Failure to comply to the requirements must result in surrender of the weapons. Devices must be kept locked up and not resold, used by, or leant out to anyone else. Ammunition must not exceed the amount to be defined by ATF. Upon the death or age limit of the owner the devices must be surrendered to law enforcement. The value of the gun and ammunition will be reimbursed to the trust.
