Should women be trained and issued firearms?

Since it's mostly men that commit violent crimes, especially with guns, shouldn't women be encouraged and sponsored to carry their own protection?

Men mostly commit violent crime, but men are also far more likely to be the victim of violent crime.

How does that fit with your suggestion?
