When I was a child I visited at several occasions during my school life the Menin Gate in Ieper or Ypres (Belgium). I was standing there with classmates, some passersby, some visitors and the single bugler. It's was then somewhere in the month of November after the yearly Armistice Remembrance and mostly freezing cold. It was in short a latish (8 PM), cold and solitary event. Since some fifteen years ago it seems that all has changed for the moment yet again. My question is now: how do you feel about the emergence of so-called war tourism? People who just go to places where awful events did happen in the fairly recent past but without any real personal connection to them.
What do you call "real personal connection"? If the battle was somehow important to your country, I'd say that's close enough. If it was momentous enough for world history, that's pretty close too
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP A whole country can't have a real connection to what happened here like no whole country was in the resistance during the last world war.
I don’t go out of my way to visit famous battle sites, war related places and have been to cities that were under siege or captured around the world. I have been to many. In London I went to the Savoy because it is so many books, TV shows and movies.
