Palestine - Japan, a comparison

2,403 Americans and others at Pearl Harbor were killed when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941.
The US responded with a declaration of war and by the end of the war 2,800,000 Japanese were killed.

I'm trying to imagine radicalized college students in the 1940s taking over college campuses and yelling and screaming about US murdering innocent Japanese. Demanding that colleges and universities cease any investments in US companies that produced war materials.

Israel doesn’t actually have a bombing campaign against civilians like the allies did.

One night of allied bombing against civilians killed as many people in the seven months of the Gaza war.

@Bumbles incorrect. One night = 3x deaths in Gaza so far. I think fire bombing tokyo killed 100k. But you are correct- civilians were specifically targeted unapologetically. Now it seems more like carelessness.

@trollslayer Yes, you’re right about Tokyo. I think Hamburg, Dresden, Hiroshima and Nagasaki are closer.

I think there has probably been carelessness, even indifference, and using too strong of ordinance.

@Bumbles i cam somewhat rationalize Hiroshima, because those dropping the bombs and giving orders may not have comprehended the power. But fire bombing tokyo was intended to cause suffering. Pure terrorism.

@trollslayerNot defending here, but there was a purported military reason for the Tokyo bombing because much of the military hardware for the war was fabricated in small structures that were decentralized in the city.

Precision bombing was impossible anyway, especially because of the weather in the area. The wind was perfect for the firebombing.

Firebombing was not accidental, though. It was perfected beforehand.

LeMay didn’t care, though, and he surely knew what was going happen.

@Bumbles “purported”. I think the claim that Tokyo had dispersed factories was an excuse for what they wanted to do anyway.

@trollslayer For some reason my response went to the top…”Could be…”
