Minecraft: wood farm finished!
The concept is quite simple: I can plant saplings at the top layer, either wait for them to grow into trees or bonemeal them for that to happen almost instantly, and then chop the trees down. A bunch of minecarts then collect the drops and hoppers transfer all items from all minecarts into a single chest.
A clock launches the minecarts every 43 seconds, which is exactly the time they need to complete a lap and unload when they are completely full.
Every tree type grows in a different way though. Some saplings need to be planted individually while others need to be planted in a 2x2 square, some require more space around them than others to grow at all, and some grow wider than others, thus requiring more distance to the edge of the collection area to ensure no resources drop without being picked up.
So I added buttons to change the layout of the top layer where I plant saplings to match the border and separation to each tree type:
This changes the layout as follows for different types:
Dark & Pale Oak:
Mangrove:
Spruce:
Acacia:
Regular Oak:
Jungle:
Birch:
Cherry:
