it's always a great year for gaming ☺
GoFish ·
@Ben1000 yeah i just use it for other things now lol
Ben1000 · 41-45, M
@GoFish me too, I just allow gaming to get in the way, other tasks can wait 😊
GoFish ·
@Ben1000 ikr? lol

SleepingWithGhosts · 46-50, M
I can't get into gaming. I miss the old PS1 and PS2 games. They were so fun back in the day.
Ben1000 · 41-45, M
@SleepingWithGhosts I still look back on the Super Nintendo as my favourite console, I used to love playing the original MarioKart with my pals
SleepingWithGhosts · 46-50, M
@Ben1000 That was a fun ass game. I used to play it on the Wii with my son when he was really little.
Ben1000 · 41-45, M
@Ben1000 shooting your mate with a red shell when he’s about to cross the finishing line never got old.

I think it's shaping up to be a golden age for indie and foreign devs. Western AAA studios seem to have been dropping the ball for 5+ years now
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
@caPnAhab honestly it's largely about capitalism - or rather return on investment. If you take a game like Baldur's Gate 3 and put it at a western AAA dev, then it would be viewed as kind of a flop financially. Acclaimed game, great critical review. It had AAA level sales. But it also took significantly longer and cost more to develop. AAA devs don't get the liberty to play in those margins, especially if they are publicly traded or owned by private non-gamer investors.

The indie space are the only ones with any room to breath and experiment. Even then, far more fail than succeed.
Ben1000 · 41-45, M
@ViciDraco and the Indy devs are turning out some good games, AAA games have been dull for a while now
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
@Ben1000 most of them are stuck in the safe sequel space. Assassin's Duty World Cup 2027 Remastered
What are your thoughts on Crimson Desert?
Ben1000 · 41-45, M
@PrincessVelvet Good story, world and characters but the controls are shite, in boss fights I end up whistling for my horse, shooting the laser thingy you use to move stuff about into the floor (and it grips), The frame rate at 60FPS on PS5 Pro is also pretty shaky.
Feel like Digital Foundry after that
Ben1000 · 41-45, M
@PrincessVelvet But I am enjoying it
Just bought Clair Obsura on sale so I will be giving that a try. But so far Cyberpunk 2077 is most of my gaming time and nothing I have tried since comes close.
Ben1000 · 41-45, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Love Cyberpunk but I didn’t go for Clair Obsura as I can’t get into turned based combat
@Ben1000 The biggest thing for me is after the amount of effort that went into Cyberpunk I have much higher standards when it comes to characters. Very few games since have managed to get me to care at all about the characters. In RPGs especially it really draws attention to the low effort on side characters just being a cardboard cutout to give fetch quests to your MC. It makes it very hard to care or get into the story.
Ben1000 · 41-45, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow 💯 my favourite game is Red Dead Redemption 2, fantastic writing, my girlfriend even cried at the end when Arthur Morgan dies.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
You forgot GTA6
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@Ben1000 Like Star Wars Empire at War?
Ben1000 · 41-45, M
@MrBrownstone I’m slumming it on the PS5 Pro, never had a PC.
Appetite For Destruction, still one of the greatest albums of all time
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@Ben1000 Thanks!
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
Guess it depends on what you are into. None of those really call to me. I think I've played mostly Starsand Ialand and World of Warcraft thisc year. Also went and played Final Fantasy I for nostalgia.
Ben1000 · 41-45, M
@ViciDraco do you still think WoW is as good as it once was?
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
@Ben1000 I spend about equal time in Midnight and Classic. I think both versions are good, but for very different reasons. New wow has really refined storytelling and there is a more active social player base. Classic feels more satisfying as an actual progression RPG. I like the pacing better and that the process of leveling up feels like part of the journey and not just an obstacle. Honestly, leveling in new wow doesn't feel like much at all anymore.

But ultimately, both versions good. But they are different games and I can see how they appeal to different bases.
