Why is gaming such a big thing these days?

I don't totally get the appeal. I'd rather do something more productive or something I would at least benefit from.

one could say that certain/many/but not all video games are interactive audio books that players get as much out of as other people reading books

5 hr Short (horror) Story- Little Nightmares

10 hour horror story, with a 20 yr/8 game legacy- Resident Evil: Village

50+ hr- history of the Old West -
Red Dead Redemption

A 15 yr 4 game series about Greek Mythology - God Of War

maybe being an 8 ft tall intergalactic soldier is more your thing-
Halo series is here for you

and for every one of these games there is 100 30 min to 2 hr games, and I haven't touched on VR games, or the fact that many jobs including the military are using the technology to train people for the job.
