I used to play D&D regularly with some guys I knew, back when I was 18 or 19. We would meet at this one guy's house, get a few cases of beer, and consume them throughout the evening. One time, another guy we knew who didn't play with us sat in on a game. His observation was that playing D&D gave us something to do while we were getting drunk.
After I moved out at age 20, I saw people playing D&D but never joined them and haven't played since.
