I wonder if The Outer Worlds is a preview of how civilization is going to end up in the distant future
Perhaps not too distant, even. Basically, where society has become so thoroughly indoctrinated by the megacorporations they work for that everyone is completely subservient to them, to where they put undying loyalty over common sense. The corporate executives who run these companies not being any brighter, becoming so accustomed to corner-cutting that they have no idea how to actually run a sustainable business, let alone a colony. Granted, The Outer Worlds, as its title might suggest, is set in another star system being colonized by these megacorporations and it's strongly suggested that they're only able to get away with their gross mismanagement because they're far beyond Earth's sphere of influence. But when you look at how fanatically subservient some people get over certain political movements and/or figures, the concept of people being indoctrinated by entire corporations doesn't seem too far off. Just a thought.
