Does anybody else play the electronic version of Terraforming Mars?
I know, I’m autistic and nerdy, and probably none of you have even heard of this app based on the niche strategy board game, but I’ve been playing the solo version on my tablet a lot in my free time lately. For about the last half year or so I’ve been very pleased because they finally seemed to have fixed all the bugs; however, tonight the app updated and I quickly discovered a new bug. The “Space Station” card, in addition to awarding the player one victory point, is supposed to yield a 2 Megacredit discount on all subsequent space cards played, as indicated by the space symbol with a -2 beside it. Well now instead of a -2 by the space symbol the card shows a 0, and sure enough playing the card gives you no discount on space cards (nor any other cards, obviously). Other than the one victory point the card is worthless, it has no effect. And yeah, 10 Megacredits is a lot of money to pay for just one victory point in this game.
After forfeiting the game, because I had spent 10 Megacredits on a card that didn’t deliver on its intended effect, I was going to report the new bug tonight, but the reporting process is a major pain in the ass! They want you to solemnly swear that you’ve read their FAQ page, which I can’t even find, share screenshots, videos, and game logs, write an essay about how you got to the problem and what things you could do differently to maybe avoid the problem, and tell them what version of iOS you’re using (I don’t remember) and what version number of the game you’re using (don’t know where to look for that).
This experience really put a damper on my evening. Maybe on the weekend or something I’ll take some time to fill out the form. Or maybe I’ll just try to ignore that card from now on and never buy it again until the next update, I don’t know.
