my BF's birthday is coming up and i wanna get him a gaming pc but i'm not sure about which kind to get him. would i be better off getting an Intel based pc or an AMD based pc? is there that much of a difference?

For gaming an AMD Ryzen 5 3600X is the sweet spot right now. But I think you have to ask his friends what he likes, because if he is an intel fanboy, then an amd system will make hard time for your relationship. :)
