When riding on a train with seats facing backward and forward. Does it matter to you which direction you face?

I have to face forward.

Me too. Otherwise I get nauseous

@AthrillatheHunt Apparently it's a known phenomenon for some people to suffer from motion sickness when traveling backwards at speed. I noticed it first started to affect me when I was in my early 30s and I've no idea why, after years of traveling by train all over Europe it suddenly hit me. TGVs and HSTs are awful if I can't get a forward facing seat.

@FreddieUK I can’t even read in a moving train or car , even if I’m facing forward. Still get nauseous. And I commuted by rail for several years. So many hours of wasted time I couldn’t get any work done.

@AthrillatheHunt I can't read on the move either. Even trying tp navigate for someone with a paper map (remember those?) is a challenge and as for reading through notes for a meeting - forget it. You have my sympathies and understanding.

I can go either way. Afterall, I like both cowgirl and reverse cowgirl.

I prefer facing forward – the same direction that the train is traveling. Unfortunately, sometimes the train is too full and I have to sit backward. Facing seat..

I prefer facing forwards. Facing rearwards I find myself trying to turn my head or move my eyes to face forwards.
Forward I get often dizzy the other way

Yes, I too must face forward. I don't like riding in what feels like reverse.

It never worried me. But my wife always had to face the front..😷
I have to be facing forward
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
Forward every time. It's really annoying when the train reverses part way through the journey. 😕 In some places the seats are reversible, but not in the UK.

Don’t like standing much
I prefer to face forward, and I'd prefer a window seat, but I prefer to have a seat to myself even more. So will take a backward seat if I don't have to sit next to anyone.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
@Mindfulness Is that a problem, post covid? Here everybody gets the two seats to themselves unless all the seats are taken. Or school is out and those little monsters think its funny trying to sit too close to you.
@Thevy29 oh it's nothing to do with covid, I just don't like people.
