Something is a bit odd about that story. The control system of the car is not powered directly from the traction battery but from a 12 V battery similar to an ICE car starter battery. There are terminals behind the nose cone that let you charge that battery with an ordinary 12 V battery charger. The exact procedure varies from model to model.
