Hearing about all the flight cancellations and delays I think it may be time for President Biden to direct the USAF and USAF Reserves to help get the people moving.
There are hundreds of jumbo C-5s, C-17s and crews able to be mobilized within a couple of hours.
While the weather may have closed a number of airports down for a few hours, once the storms have passed and the runways cleared, the airports are again operational. So what's causing the cancellations and delays have more to do with staffing and misaligned resources. Even with light snow, snowplows make periodic passes to keep airports open.
There's historical precedence for the military to come to the rescue of stranded passengers overloading the existing airline resources. Listen to the news reports, it may be that time again.
For some people Christmas and New year is sacred. My family wanted me to fly but I said ...come on....middle of winter ? YOU do not have the inconveniences but I will. It is really not worth it.
@revenant We had a blizzard in Oklahoma in 2012. It was set to hit on Christmas Eve. They warned for 4 days before to get all shopping done, winterize the home, have everything you need stocked up and to stay home and not be on the roads. People had to do their last minute shopping and some died because they were trying to drive home after the stores closed at 6 p.m. They didn’t find one man’s truck with him inside for over a day because the snow had piled up and covered it.
