Question about tipping…

Do you tip the Amazon or FedEx driver who delivers your package? How bout the mail man?

So why am I obligated to tip the food delivery service like Skip the Dishes or Door Dash? Or even the pizza guy?

Just wondering what you guys think

I offer a chocolate to every delivery driver who comes to me, I know it's just a small gesture but I do gift any regulars a box of chocolates at Christmas and if they're are particularly good I tape a tenner to the box.

I dislike tipping because I believe they should be paid a decent wage but I realise they often aren't so this is my compromise.

I rarely see the guy who is delivering packages to me so no, I don’t tip them. I always tip the food delivery person or the Uber driver if my son takes the Uber. I don’t tip the mailman, but I give him a gift card at Christmas. If someone brings or helps me bring my groceries to my car then I tip them as well.

They have to drive their own vehicle and use their own gas for starters. They don't work for a corporation so they have zero benefit or security. If they get in a no fault crash and break their back delivering your food they're screwed and you're just gonna be angry because you didn't get your food delivered to your door and leave a bad review.

It's also massive luxury to have your whims delivered, so why be cheap to the person who is doing what you can afford to pay someone else to do?

I delivered for instacart for awhile and I quit because people would leave $2 tip so I'd spend an hour and a half getting their groceries and delivering them for like $5 🖕🏼

I hate this non-tipping attitude. Everyone should experience working for tips and see how it feels.

@MarbleMarvel Not everyone can afford to tip.
Also it's not my fault you don't earn as much as you would like to.
You shouldn't expect tips,if one is given then see it as a nice little bonus.

I feel badly for people who Doordash, Uber Eats, or other services. BUT i fucking hate tipping. It is out of control and excuse for businesses to not pay liveable wages to drivera and delivery persons. I have also encountered tipping at McDonalds and fast food establishments.

I hear you in respect to feeling obligated but the only persons we are hurting are the persons preforming the jobs.

I almost always pay with my credit or debit card but I NEVER put thw tip on the card. I slip the driver/delivery workers and employees cash in person.

The delivery apps don't pay the drivers much. Food delivery has traditionally been tipped. If you want a no tip delivery system prepare to pay a lot more than you currently do.
They charge you a delivery fee, and then you're expected to tip on top of that. I don't get it.
@MsSwan the driver isn't charging you a fee, the app is. The driver might get $2-3 and how is that fair?
@MarbleMarvel No, It's not fair. That's why they should be paid more in the first place. That includes waiters and waitresses too.
@MsSwan I agree, but expecting businesses to care about their employees is a thing of the past.
I tip food delivery peeps, and the others get water in the summer. Our postman is lovely

He's bringing your pizza in a blizzard. Give the guy a tip eh 😐
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
@Lilymoon I can see tipping in the restaurant…the waiter/ess tries hard to make your meal enjoyable. But this guy just leaves it on my step and leaves. Doesn’t even say hi! Lol

(Now you got me doing your lil thingy)

I never tip anyone. I never have.

In countries like Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and many other countries in the western world, leaving a tip is considered a compliment, whereas in Japan, leaving a tip is considered an insult.
