Dual Sport Motorcycles

Does anyone else out there enjoy riding on AND off road? I have had many different motorcycles
up to about 40 years old. I then concentrated on building my company, now at 64 I finally got
back into riding, and decided on a dual sport, since I like both dirt and street. I'm already
looking at what I will get after this one. I'm still getting back my skills.

I haven't been off road in years on a bike, I raced motocross and gravel pits and trails, I never had any interest in a dual sport as they aren't real good at either, but Im talking about them 45 years ago so im sure there is improvement

@fortycreek I had tons of fun on my dual sport XT500 back around 1979. Rode it to work
and cruised the desert when not at work. There are tons of really nice dual sports, and a
huge array of great 50/50 tires. After the XT I got into enduros. I raced some cross country
desert races, but just a couple. In order KDX175 - XR500 (2) - RMX250 - Husky 510 - KDX220

plus a couple street bikes KZ1000 and Vulcan 800 V twin

Now at 64 I have down sized to a XT250 It's not great at anything, but fun at everything.

My very first bike was a Honda trail 70 then a Kawasaki KE250 2 stroke dual sport
before they were banned.

@DogMan @fortycreek You must live in California. My first bike was a Honda 50 too. I was 8 also. Then at 12 I moved up to a Yamaha Mini Enduro 60. I wanted the dirt bike version, but my dad was paying and he wanted to tag it so he could ride it around the neighborhood. At 14 I bought and paid for my first bike. It was a Yamaha Enduro 100. The guy had taken the carburetor apart and put the needle back in upside down. That's the only reason I could afford it. At idle it was great. Give it some juice and it would shut off. My dad fixed that quick and I had a few years of good service out of it. From there I bought a Kawasaki KX 125. That thing was wild! As for street bikes I had a Honda 500 and a Honda Goldwing.

@fortycreek So just the two stroke motorcycles then.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@Musicman They banned 2 strokes for street use in the states back in the 80's I believe.
But for now they are still legal off-road.

@fortycreek Yeah when I was a young man in the Air Force during the late 70's early 80's
I lived and breathed motorcycles, Had subscriptions to Dirt Bike magazine and others.
I knew the specs on every bike made. ☺️

@Musicman That's a nice array of bike. That KX125 was the king back then
fortycreek · M
@DogMan I had and 81 yz125 then bought a new 83 yz125 they were so fun

@fortycreek I never had a full blown motocrosser. The KDX 175, KDX220, and RMX250 were close.
they were 2 strokes with the same suspension. But they had a little heavier fly wheel. They had
better low end torque, but not the high rev horsepower. I rode a KX500 once, and it scared me.
