Dual Sport Motorcycles

Does anyone else out there enjoy riding on AND off road? I have had many different motorcycles
up to about 40 years old. I then concentrated on building my company, now at 64 I finally got
back into riding, and decided on a dual sport, since I like both dirt and street. I'm already
looking at what I will get after this one. I'm still getting back my skills.

Most of the dual sports made now you need a step ladder to get on. A fun trail bike to me is not 600 lb BMW GS.

@jackson55 I hear ya. Thats exactly why went with the XT250 32" seat height.

About 30 years ago I had a Husky 510 and it had a 38 1/2" seat height. Great
bike, very powerful, with long travel. But I had to slide off to one side when
I stopped. I drool over the Tenere 700, but it's got a tall seat height and seems
to be fairly top heavy.

@DogMan If you are going to ride MX or serious cross country I can see where. foot of travel is an advantage. For a trail bike it makes the seat too high. I have a 70’s Yamaha IT. It has 9” of travel and a seat height of 31” weights 230 lbs. .

@jackson55 Oh yeah, I remember the IT they were always blue, right? A friend of mine
had one in the 80's . I bought a new XT500 in 1979 It was one of the first big offroad
thumpers, It was also my daily driver. It was all black with a polished chrome tank.

It had a compression relief lever for when you kick started it, so it would not kick you
back. 😄

@DogMan I built a Yamaha powered Cheney in the 80’s for a guy to race in AHRMA vintage racing.

@jackson55 What is a Cheney? Drag racer?
jackson55 · M
@DogMan No, it was a dirt bike. Eric Cheney was in the UK. Hand made frames from the 60’s and 70’s. Normally powered by BSA or Triumph engines. They were used for motocross.
