People about electric cars ten years ago: "Eww, it can't do 100km with a recharge"

People about electric cars now: "Eww, if I can't drive me from Gibraltar to Oslo in one run it's not worth it"

I want nothing to do electric cars. I build my own cars and trucks.

Nothing I drive comes from a dealership

If I can't get a Rimac Nevera for free, no electric cars should be made

@deadgerbil I'll cycle from Venice to Messina before voluntarily giving any money to Musk lol

I like the idea of electric cars, but I'd really a stable energy infrastructure in my country that doesn't go off half the day. Bear in mind, consumers aren't even that much to blame in SA. The sole energy company uses mostly coal power.

@LordShadowfire Changing the ruling class by electing people who aren't shills for the oil industry, same as almost everywhere else I fear.

@basilfawlty89 Wow. I thought the oil industry was bad in the US.

@basilfawlty89 That's dope actually. That's one of my grips about renewable energy initiatives that it isn't more focused on putting power generation in the hands of the homeowner/consumer. Instead of the hands of business to distribute and relying on the infitnalty stupid grid system.

I know there still needs to be a centralized power system to meet all needs and not every dwelling is capable of generating their own but there should be a strong focus of putting it in the personal hands of as many as possible over paying for someone else to produce it. The more we have personal power generation the better.

The reason why it is happening there sucks, but it is really fucking awesome that people are just deciding to produce their own and the more who do the better.

Nah, it's different out here

I like the idea of electric vehicles but until a 750 to thousand miles distance without a recharge is viable I don't see it being for me. Not if they are priced similarly to gas or diesel vehicles. The charge times are just too long for me to settle for less.

@LordShadowfire Umm I live in a rural area and mileage estimates on both electric and ICE vehicles are very wonky at best. You almost never get the actual mileage on either that gets states unless you're lucky enough to be on traffickers straight flat roads.

If I'm laying $50,000 for a new vehicle say. I want to be able to drive an 8 hour trip when I want to. With an ICE the mileage a tank of gas gets me ( not based on MPG but on how far the tank capacity gets me) doesn't matter much. Refueling is easy and quick. It just means how often I have to refuel. With electrics recharging is a slow process. Even with quick charge. So if I want to go visit my sister in NYC say, I want to be able to get there without stopping for this long drawn out recharge and still be able to drive around when I get there.
Plus I want to be able to two my boat or a travel trailer when I go away which severely lowers the distance capacity that gets stated. Also what about when I want to go to the mountains and be far from any refueling? You can't just bring electricity or if stranded on empty have someone bring you a recharge.

The whole idea of complete replacement is short sighted and ignorant to me but I am strongly in favor of having both options and more electric available and development of them.

Personally I'd like to see more under $20,000 electrics being made for city and local commuting that's accessable to all and allows for people to have both who might want or have use for. One of each. Instead of trying to directly compete in the same class. Not only do I think that's more practical and realistic, I also believe it would convince more of adopting them as daily commuters.

@MethDozer I'm glad I asked nicely. I was about to post with my usual snark, and then I saw your name.

Which leads me to think I need to rethink how I talk to other people.
