Fuel Cost In The UK

Fuel cost has risen to an all time high in the uk . It is now almost 10 pound a gallon . That means to fill the average tank is now just over 100 pounds . This is asbsolutely ridiculous . The cost of living is rising beyond anything we have ever seen before and this is just gonna make it worse . Transport companies wont be able to absorb the costs so once again customers are gonna pay more for their goods . Its a vicious circle and to add to it now rail staff are going on strike for more pay . If they get more pay its gonna be rail travellers it will hit with higher rail fares . So whether you use a car or use the train you cant win adding again to the cost of everything . Its begining to spiral out of control . This is gonna cause an economic slump as people stop spending and start watching their spending . Its gonna cause real problems worldwide .

You'd almost think it would motivate a fast and hard move away from petroleum products. It's hitting us in the wallet and it's definitely hitting us with the climate. But that's not how humans roll.

One thing for sure.... I cant afford to buy an electric car... @Ynotisay

@braveheart21 Me neither .

Its time the government and the fuel companies stopped profiteering from the fuel price.... The fuel companies are running with the same amount of drivers the had 2yrs ago... There is no fuel shortage or driver shortage in that industry... The government is grabbing as much fuel duty as they can and the 5p reduction has already been swallowed by price increases... @Rhode57

@braveheart21 Yep your right and their excuse is getting a bit lame now . The war in ukraine seems to be a good excuse for everything .
braveheart21 · 61-69, M
Well i mean north sea oil n gas has to go via Ukraine to get here you know... 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️@Rhode57

@braveheart21 i hear you. But that's changing. EV prices are actually coming down. Newer tech most always gets implemented in higher end models and then it becomes ubiquitous. And most every car company is investing in more affordable models. Until then, I think more government rebates and incentives are necessary. Some places offer them but some don't.

Whatever is coming in by 2030will not help me... Im 65 now and a caravaner... I cant afford nor will I be able to afford electric even then... @Ynotisay

@braveheart21 Well, it'll be a while before most RV's are fully electric although there are some out there and it's a market companies are definitely looking at. I think charging station access will be the make or break for them

Like thousands of others i have a caravan and with electric cars etc the range will be minimal i expect with a caravan on the back... @Ynotisay

@Ynotisay How fast and how hard though? We can't just press a magic [Enter] key and all is sweetness and light, and it will be even slower in a damaged economy.

@ArishMell Sweetness and light? I'll pass on that one dude.

@braveheart21 Same with towing anything really; such as trailering vintage vehicles to rallies or sports ones to their events.

I expect the motor-caravan converters are preparing for battery or hybrid versions but so far there are few if any effective electric base vehicles (commercial vans) available.

Like you and Rhodes, there is no possible way I could ever own an electric car, whatever their rich enthusiasts tell us about prices coming down. Aye, from eye-watering to merely unaffordable. Not all we near-septagenarians are rolling in money! (I've just received my new driving-licence...)

@Ynotisay I don't know what "dude" means, but we can't just move "fast and hard".

Yes, many people hope we can move rapidly away from using petroleum-derivative fuels, but with the best will in the world it will take more than just the next few years, and certainly won't help us all out of the present mess.

Really it's something that should have been thought about a long time ago....

@Ynotisay I wonder how many people are driving less, and when they are driving, what are their driving habits? It would be hard to offset the cost increases if you were modest with your tendencies before (as I was mostly). Normally, I would drive between 95-100 km/h in an 80 zone (flow of traffic, mostly). Since prices have gone up exponentially, I set my cruise control at 90 km/h now. Typically, I'd average in my 2013 Civic about 7L per 100 km, but this has dropped its use to about 6.5L per 100 km. I know that is not significant, but as you can tell, I didn't have much of a lead foot before, either. I still see many driving fast, pushing the accelerator hard right from the start, and yet everybody is talking cost of gas.

The CDN conversion from the op posted would be $2.86 per litre in $CAD. We are paying about $2.10/litre. Yes, all prices are going up on everything, which is to be expected, and I fear for the people who barely make it by as it was.
