Actually... The cost of a horse, including harness, saddle and stabling was greater as a % of the average income of the day than a car is now.. But that aside, the current cost is a direct response to the oil industries efforts to push development of alternatives down over the decades. And now the race is on the make up time. Battery powered vehicles will have a market niche in cities.. But Hydrogen will take over longer ranges in a decade or two and hygrogen pumps will be added to the fuel networks. The movement of Hydrogen internationally and globally will also be suppliment, then ultimately replace the movement of oil. No pollution and sustainable as long as the sun shines.. And this could have been here already. But for the oil companies.馃樂
@whowasthatmaskedman I'm a big fan of Hydrogen I think your right it's a better prospect there's a company near me in nearby Monmouth that makes and leases out Hydrogen cars regrettably they retain ownership of them they are doing rather well but their still a small company, I understand they've just received a small grant from the Welsh Government so I'll watch their space.
@senghenydd The evolution of the car itself requires an evolution of the fuel manufacture and distribution. And also the evolution of the vehicles themselves will be leapfrogging previous models, so I can see why they want to retain ownership right now. GM in the US did a similar thing with an early electric car (I believe called the Volt, but that might be wrong) It was released to people for a limited time, to trial and some begged to keep theirs and buy them. But GM wouldnt budge. I can see the sense as with such total new tech, a lot of unseens might ruine the reputation down the track.馃樂
