For summer at least, a ceiling fan does wonders and costs very little to run all day. A big container, bowl, or foot bath filled with cold water will also help when you dip your feet in. Lots of ice water. Reduce movement.

@4meAndyou I got through the dead of summer in TN on a shoestring budget, average bill of $40 where $28 was membership and fees for the company. Learn fast or get heat stroke.

@raysam363 I learned to fill up the bathtub with cold water when I lived in Boston. No fans, and we lived on the third floor. You can cool off in the tub when you feel like you are going to faint from heat stroke.

@raysam363 I read about a military wife a long time ago, and she says they had to live on her husband's military wage in Officers Quarters. She said she could not use electricity at all. Daylight had to do, and if they really needed to see at night they lit candles. As I recall, she wrote that at the end of the month they might have 28 cents left over.

I’ve already been doing many of these things. Ice in ziplock bags rubbed on your arms can help cool you down. Also drinks made from Jamaica tea (Hibiscus tea) are very cooling (I can’t tolerate it due to a high acid level, inflames me but the boy loves it, tastes like punch to me)..there’s also an Indian drink made from mint, cardamom seeds & fennel blended with water and strained, it will cool you down quickly.

If it comes down to it I will cut the cable tv, that’s the main entertainment we have though. Haven’t even visited a casino in over a year.

@cherokeepatti You can hook up your tv, if it is a relatively new flat screen, using a usb cable hooked up directly to a laptop, and stream free news, or stream tv shows and moves for $8 a month on Amazon video, Hulu, or even Discovery plus...but I would research content first. Discovery plus is super leftie.
Chris Hedges says we will all be in starvation mode if the combined global crises do not ease up, the economy AND climate change.

Not be be a doomsayer...

At the end SOME people will still afford to get gasolene. SOME people wil have deep storage food for decades.

I could go on....

Some great sensible advice there. 👍

@Nimbus It's the only way we will survive four years of this government.
