For those of you living in Florida
When traffic stops at a traffic light, why do drivers leave 7 car lengths between them and the next car? I saw this with my own two eyes when I went down to visit family back in 2014. I was staying at their house in Jacksonville FL, whichever highway we were on, 1A maybe? Well as traffic was stopped for a red light, every single driver down there was leaving at least 7 car lengths between them and the car in front of them.
Is there some reason why that is down there?
Where I'm at, people usually stop to where it looks like they're on your back bumper. Although I must admit, I have been leaving a good half a car length between myself and the car ahead at a traffic light, and only if there's enough room to do so. At a left arrow I won't do it because that would backup traffic into the straight lane.
