Yes, because at the speeds we travel in cars, it is absolutely necessary.
When I was a kid, I had a friend who got into a car accident. She was seated in the BACK SEAT, and flew out of the windshield.
I met her several years after this happened, but she had stitches everywhere, on her legs, arms, upper chest and even across her face.
