Heightened Senses

All types of high speed driving heighten your senses a little bit, but high speed driving on motorcycle takes that to a whole new level. All your senses become hyper sensitive. As you start to roll on the throttle and release the clutch the process starts. And when you really start to twist the throttle back and go through the gears your mind and body react. The normal scope of a world around you narrows down as if you were putting blinders on. And when your reach into the top end and the RPM' s are screaming underneath you it's almost like tunnel vision. Your reality is the circumstances affecting your forward motion.

All your senses have kicked into hyper drive, as your mind processes and calculates all of the influx of data flooding your system. You can hear, feel, see ,smell and react to a million different factors dictating your progress. And all this is happening at the same time constantly aware of the sound of the engine under high RPM's listening for any clue of something not right, the sound of the chain humming feeling the power traveling from your wrist to the back tire and it's uncontested transition to the ground.

Your eyes taking in everything from inches to hundreds of yards in front and to both sides of you. Scanning for objects or obstructions on or in the road way that could affect your course. Keenly aware of the smell of the engine and tires or lack of and what the affects could be.

Then judging and calculating upcoming turns , dips and rises in the the roadway. Adjusting your speed , downshifting, and picking a line through the turn, then off the brakes and accelerate as you counter steer through the turn. All of that happening in milli-seconds nonstop as you focus on what's ahead.

As you roll out of the throttle and the RPM' s start to fall, your vision of the world around starts to return. Your body starts to relax, muscles loosen up, breathing eases and the adrenaline starts to fade. It is truly an experience that takes your senses for a ride.

Warning:: Do not attempt this at home. All actions described were performed by an experienced rider on a closed course.

@Fullmetal I think that is great advice for anyone who is outdoors in areas that have top predators like grizzley bear, mountain lions, and wolves. I also think it's a really bad idea to jog or ride bikes on wilderness trails or trails with known populations of them. The fast movement can trigger their instinct to pursue fleeing pray. It has happened several times in several western states in the past few years. Leave the earbuds at home , take a large caliber handgun, or at least some bear spray, stay keenly aware of your surroundings and enjoy America's abundant wilderness areas, state and national parks.
