I ended up paying for my daughter to do driving lessons course. It wasn’t too expensive and not only did they do all the lessons but they also did all the necessary testing and paperwork for her to get one.
I did many sessions with her on my own, but it was rough and we would sometimes end with each of us in a bad mood. She listened better to someone else teaching her rather than just me. I’m very thankful that it’s over and done with now.

@NewBeginnings7790 yes maybe that's the route he will have to take

@SW-User It wasn’t as expensive as I thought it was going to be. And they had different options the least expensive they just did the lessons and signed off on all the needed paperwork, but you had to test elsewhere. The middle on which is the one I did where they do the all the testing and give the student the paperwork needed to go get the license made. Or the expensive package where they did it all. It was also nice because they would come pick her up wherever for each lesson. So they would pick her up for each lesson from school, work, or our home. Was extremely convenient.

@NewBeginnings7790 that does sound nice
I know the feeling from the son’s perspective. I didn’t start driving until I was way after highschool and my dad had to take me to work and home and he also worked a lot himself. At the time I didn’t realize how exhausting that probably was for him and I also felt like a slight burden on others because some of my coworkers would take me home.
I hate driving but I would never give up that type of freedom for my sake and other’s. Hopefully he learns how to drive soon.

I had a son that stayed around until he was 25 and what was worse; he wasn’t grateful for the help I gave even though he did need it.

@Pfuzylogic my son is very grateful he tells me all the time

@Pfuzylogic it does he's a good kid truly I am lucky. I think he just needs someone other than me to teach him.

Be patient...it's better that he learns to be a good driver than ends up failing his test or killing himself or someone else

Other option is car pooling with others at work.

@Elizabeth28 chill out he's just new to driving and learning he isn't intentionally doing this he's just never had to do this before he's trying

@SW-User dont matter much speeding tailgating he will fail his test be a agresive deiver make him watch Canada Worse Driver same pathern never got corrected ends up with he big fine nowwww is the time to fix his heavy foot before he speeds hurth some one and fix u to for enabling him period.
SW-User
@Elizabeth28 I am not enabling him I am teaching him. Do you really expect everyone to be a perfect driver right out the gate. That's the point of teaching you tell them what not to do and what to do. He's just starting to learn.

Driving school
That sucks, tell him, no more work until he gets his license.
Lessons with driving school might be your best bet.

@aaaabbbb he works odd hours so driving school isn't going to work but he's just got to focus on getting that license.
@SW-User that sucks. Poor guy, how old is he?
Ravens80 · 46-50, F
How old is he? 3:30 am is early for a 16/17 year old kid to be going to work. Is he in school too?
SW-User
@Ravens80 he's in college
Pretzel · 61-69, M
can he afford a driving school?
how about an uber?
how about an uber?
SW-User
@Pretzel he can't afford Uber work is too far and he doesn't make that much. He works odd hours swing/graveyard and then day shifts too so it's hard to do driving school he never knows what days he has off
Pretzel · 61-69, M
@SW-User ahh...sorry about that. hope it works out - that's soooo early to be driving -
SW-User
@Pretzel yes it's not fun

I've read all the comments and understand it's difficult.
Not sure how old your son is, but he needs to pay attention!
Maybe have him write down all the things you have to keep repeating and
give him written homework to do until he starts doing what he should be and not
how he IS doing.
Remind him a responsible/decent driver is driving for everyone else too, not just himself.
I say that because too often people drive like idiots and the rest have to watch out for them
and drive even more safely.
Good luck and I hope things change for the better....soon!

@Darksideinthenight2 public transportation here doesn't run at 3am, and we live too far for him to bike to work. He's just been working so much but hopefully soon he'll have his license
