I Like Muscle Cars

The muscle cars and the car culture of the 1960's. What a time it was. Never anything like it before nor since. Modern cars are safer and maybe better, but the car culture that existed then was really something. When the Big 3 automakers all supported auto racing, and believed in that sales saying "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday."

The hot muscle cars that we long for and pay big money for today were either brand new or just slightly used cars back then. When every car guy and car girl lived real life versions of the Beach Boy's classic car song "Shut Down" and used a car vocabulary just like the lyrics of that song in everyday speech:

"My Stingray's light the slicks are startin' to spin,
but the four-thirteen's really diggin in'
gotta be cool now power shift here we go

Superstock Dart is windin' out in low,
But my fuel injected Stingray's really startin' to go,
To get the traction I'm riding the clutch,
My pressure plate's burnin' that machine's too much....."

"Pedal's to the floor hear his dual quads drink,
And now the four-thirteen's lead is startin' to shrink,
He's hot with ram induction but it's understood,
I got a fuel injected engine sittin' under my hood."

"Shut it off shut it off, buddy now I shut you down."

@Peaches: I think this is the first reply to this here post after the nested replies feature was added by SW. And yes to everything being simpler back then. I really miss all of that.

I miss the simpler days too. I also posted an older story I wrote before the "featured stories" button was added.⭐It's not as exciting as yours, just about helping little old ladies.👵🏻

Peridot, Muscle Cars refer to a vehicle type made and marketed by U.S. car companies in the 1960's. Each manufacturer tried a slightly different approach, but the basic concept was to put a large powerful engine in a smaller car body. During that era big sedans were popular here and the cars that are considered muscle cars were smaller.

@aradia11: Thanks for your reply. My love is Mustangs, but I would also like to have an old Thunderbird one day. I do like all of those cars though, as they all contribute to the old car hobby in their own way.

Ladies first, so CereBellum I have watched Jay Leno's garage. My wife agrees with you, so you and her can go do something and your husband and I can watch Jay Leno. Aradia, I agree with your on the vintage cars too. I love them all, even the much older and prewar cars too.

Now guys, thanks Rambler, those were indeed good old days. Two lane blacktop days and hardly any traffic. Stereoguy, cruise nights are very cool and the best we can do today to relive those days.

My son is 20 and won't own a new vehicle. Says they are crap. He bought an 89 F150 in great shape, and he loves it. His first car was a 69 mercedes diesel. He loved that car so much, it was original and in beautiful shape. Some lady in a Lexus ended that car's life, and my son still isn't completely over the loss.

I've never heard of Muscle cars before. But Chevies and T-Birds I know about. I've seen Chevies driven here by car enthusiasts.
