Safe and legal ≠ popular on the road.

I made a maneuver today that was 100% safe and legal but apparently unpopular because people here don't actually know the driving laws. One driver slammed on their brakes (for no reason, with someone right behind them) and flipped me off.

This kind of thing happens on a daily basis, not just to me but all over. It's scary how many people are piloting 2-ton vehicles without actually knowing what they're doing. And yet it's the only way for us to get around.

Welcome to the US where we have the best and most expensive of everything—half of us can't afford it, and the rest don't know how it works.

I'm curious, what maneuver was it? A U-turn? Here in oregon, those are only legal in certain places, but I understand that in other states, they are legal unless there's a sign that says otherwise.
@LordShadowfire Well here's the part where someone reads the details and tries to tell me I did it wrong even though I took the time to read my entire law book on driving, plus some.

My lane was ending, I was driving the speed limit, had my signal on to merge, used the lane to the end like we're supposed to, and made sure that no one beside me had to adjust their driving as I merged (even if she reacted like I was playing Tokyo Drift).

@SinlessOnslaught I'll bet you anything that other driver was looking at her phone. Then she looked up and saw you merging and freaked.
