Lets see. For $5000 you can almost buy the parts to re do the brakes..Or maybe buy a radiator...😷

@whowasthatmaskedman The radiator cracked at 105,000 miles on my 2013 E550. That, and two plastic inter-cooler lines needed to be replaced. That was $5K. Argh. I said to my service advisor "Gee, a freaking Ford radiator lasts longer". He said "Well, they put that twin-turbo V8 in the E-class engine bay, and the heat kills the plastics...". I said "So the engineering managers at Daimler have doctorates in mechanical engineering, but clearly they failed materials science.". He didn't know what to say. IDK... I get it. Stuff fails. But that was inexcusable at low miles for a Mercedes. Heck, the original clutch in my 1975 240D lasted 140,000 miles and the motor made it to 300,000 miles. Go figure.

@rfatoday Mercs are brilliantly engineered. But the parts cost is prohibitive. Volvos were bad enough... When you could still get parts...😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Yeah, there are more sportier cars but once you get used to driving these things, other "good cars" are "good" but the Benz is clearly better designed with excellent chassis dynamics. Everyone has their preferences. I could crank Pink Floyd in the E550 and nothing rattled LOL.The thing was milled from a steel billet it seemed. But yeah, very expensive to repair. It's that so many things failed on it after that radiator that should not have failed.

@rfatoday My son has a love affair with BMWs. He can afford it. But hardly ever drives. Still. He has no othe vices. So I have to allow that..😷
