Went out to go grocery shopping and gas

Had a slight delay - battery seemed a little weak - and I was right - it died in the gas pump line. Ooops

Nice stranger jumped me off (well my battery anyway) and went to the auto parts store.

Didn't like spending the cash - but whatever.

Oh, they had a battery for 80 bucks - with a whopping 90 day warranty...uhm...no.

cool that they had the right battery.
Pretzel · 61-69, M
@Matt85 yeah, glad I didn't have to try two or three stores.

Batteries don't come with very long warranties these days they used to be that Walmart would sell one for about 80 bucks for the 2-year warranty I don't know if they're still doing that now but the cost is going up and warranties are going down and the only thing that is not keeping up with the cost of living is wages. Sorry you had your battery die but the good news is if you drive the car enough it will build a charge back so you can get where you need to go and usually if you drive a little more than normal your battery will still be charged up for the next time you use it. You will eventually have to replace it but you can make do
KingofBones1 · 46-50, M
@Pretzel that is true with a cold spell around the corner you are better off replacing it because cold snaps will drain the life from a battery very quickly I went through that before and after a good cold morning you will have to come get a re start I guarantee that so it was better than you did. I was just speaking in general
Pretzel · 61-69, M
@KingofBones1 oh yeah, I totally get what you were saying - if we were still mid-season I would have let them put water in the cells and charge it. The guy said they could hit it with a charge and it would probably hold the charge - the question is for how long.

Had the money - so I went ahead and bought it - this one is sealed so I don't have to water it :)

@Pretzel good to go and vehicles do require maintenance and now and then need new parts just part of the fun of car ownership

You won't need it now but. We have what's called halo volt .it's about the size of a large book ,it will jump start charge phone ,inflate a tire and has an ac outlet. Price around 100 dollars awesome part of highway tool kit .

Yeah, an $80 battery might last 90 days... that's something I always go top of the line on.
Pretzel · 61-69, M
@Ontheroad I figure that with it having a 90 day warranty it would die on day #91. :)

Dad always told me - don't buy the cheapest or the most expensive. Amazing how wise that man was.
Ontheroad · M
@Pretzel Or it would die on day 60 and the fine print says "prorated", at 60 days you get a shrug🤣
MarineBob · 56-60, M
Remember when we had gauges instead of lights and codes
Pretzel · 61-69, M
@MarineBob yup.

Hey this thing is constantly discharging - I'd better check the alternator
HannahSky · F
80 bucks lol it must have been someone else's dead battery
Pretzel · 61-69, M
@HannahSky or the strapped a bunch of D cells together.
Lilnonames · F
Check altinator
Pretzel · 61-69, M
@Lilnonames good point!
Lilnonames · F
@Pretzel they usually give you a free check at part stores, cause if altinator works correctly it won't die
Pretzel · 61-69, M
@Lilnonames I THINK he did the check when he checked the battery - but may just take it back next week and make sure.

Appreciate the heads up
