The clever mechanic put too much coolant in my car

and it caused some smoke. I took it to him to ask why it did this and he said nothings wrong. I was like “yeah right” in my mind but I couldn’t wait to get out of that place with snotty mechanics. I went to another place with good reviews and the guy looked under my hood and asked me if I added the coolant. I said no way. He must have thought it was me because it’s a stupid thing to do for a professional mechanic. I told him the mechanic from the popular company did that. He took out the extra coolant with a tube and I’m glad he actually had a mechanic brain to know what was the problem. Ugh, too much coolant can cause burning in the engine.

@Whyme he practically filled it to the top
Whyme · 46-50, M
@SW-User thats partially true no it wont cause it to overheat but yes it will eject the reservoir but it really shouldnt be more than about a cup
SW-User
@Whyme they put like two gallons in there and they did other horrible work that they had to redo. I wouldn’t be caught dead going to them again.
Whyme · 46-50, M
@SW-User a typical cooling system of a passanger car is about 3 gallons but glad ya got someone ya trust now
SW-User
@Whyme I don’t know how much was in there. I read it’s only supposed to be 30%.
SW-User
It’s not supposed to be filled to the rim because it spills and expands the tubes causing damage @Whyme
Whyme · 46-50, M
@SW-User no it dont expand any tubes it dont expand in the overflow at all it expands in the engine and to lesser degree in the radiator with heat but its not like it doubles in size so it shouldnt overflow more that about a cup even if it was right full the radiator is suppose to hold some pressure thats what keeps it from boiling
SW-User
I don’t know much about cars but I hope the coolant left is the right amount. I’m sick or thinking about it @Whyme

@SW-User im sure you are fine yes
SW-User
@Whyme the mechanic that took out the excess coolant seems sincere. I haven’t found a sincere mechanic for a long time.

@SW-User thats good there are some good ones im not a liscensed mechanic just a back yard do it yourself kinda guy but did race and build race engines so got a pretty good understanding if most things mechanical the computers and sensors i got no love for though lol

@Whyme they make something soo simple seem like rocket science. If they are licensed and certified then they shouldn’t make detrimental mistakes that can ruin the car. It’s a car we drive not a toy.
Whyme · 46-50, M
@SW-User well yes they do over explain it but so did the one that helped you it wouldnt have ruined your car
