BMW are to charge people in certain areas $18 per month a subscription service for heated seats and steering wheel

The hardware will already be in each car, to activate it you have to download an app and subscribe to get your heated seat etc to work

Wow, money grabbers much😮🤑🤑🤑🤑
SW-User
Does that include activating the indicators

@SW-User omg, audi drivers are the worst 🧐😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
SW-User
@SW-User I know 🤣. I think I ticked all the most hated boxes. Straight white middle-aged English male Audi driver. No wonder I have no friends.

I think the steering wheel is actually a separate charge, but I might be wrong. This is the shift to you not owning anything. Instead you'll be forever paying to rent. Tesla is the same way. You don't own the software the car uses. People are buying used teslas with the fsd package only to have it disabled because they didn't pay tesla for it.
@SW-User if I were to ever buy a bmw I would have them take the hardware for the heated seats out and pay me $18 a month to have it lol
SW-User
@SooperSarah I can't imagine ever paying extra for certain car parts to work
@SW-User unfortunately once they all do it we won't have a choice in the matter.

What is far worse than BMW (it WOULD be BMW, wouldn't it!?) doing it, is that people will legitimise this revolting iteration of moribund 21st century capitalism by actually paying for it too.

By the time I'm in my 80s (assuming I can afford the rent on my own body to live that long), we'll not be allowed to own anything at all.
SW-User
@AlicjaMagic that is the worrying thought
rachelsj · 22-25, F
BMW is just a status car anyway
@rachelsj don't think the rest aren't going to do the same.
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
@rachelsj Same as Merc, or Audi, or Porsche, or Lexus, or Acura, or Infiniti, or Genesis, or Tesla.
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
There will be a hack to get around this I'm sure. Much like people will work out how to hack Tesla's electronic systems in the cars the Musk's company spews forth.
SW-User
@butterflybaby75 I hope so!! Not that I'll buy a BMW, I hate them, but I'm sure other companies will follow suit
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
@SW-User I will never buy a vehicle that is continually 'connected' to any sort of 'ecosystem' that does FOTA-type updates and collects usage data. Remember GM's 'OnStar' crap? That never really took off in any big way here.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
That is pure greed. Tge customer already paid extra for those features.
SW-User
@SweetMae I think so too
I've got 99 problems and capitalism is the root of all of them.
chrisCA · M
I remember when cars did not have these features.
Trying sitting on vinyl seats in the Winter. 😅
SW-User
@chrisCA I remember burning the legs off myself in the summer
4meAndyou · F
Do the seats also massage one's posterior? If not, I think I prefer coin slot operation. Put in a quarter and get heated massage...🤣

That sounds fair. Anyone that can afford a heated seat BMW obviously has too much money. So...
Pretzel · 61-69, M
hope they get sued.

the car owners own that "hardware" and paid extra for it no doubt.
SW-User
@Pretzel exactly!!
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
Outdated before it even hit the market
Applepiedom · 56-60, M
Goodnight. Next you'll have to pay per song on radio
deadgerbil · 26-30
Gotta love that corporate greed 🤑

@Teslin that's what I said too, it will be in UK and Germany and some other areas in Europe and some parts of USA

@SW-User 😤🤯
Justenjoyit · 61-69, M
I would tell them not to fit the options when ordering the car lol
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
Wow that’s insanity. I have never thought about buying one but certainly wouldn’t now.
