Are cars nowadays better than cars of the past?

I've read that many 70's and 80's cars for example were pretty bad as far as quality goes (in America at least), but they were a lot easier to repair and maintain.

Most makes of cars in the 70s and 80s were easier to maintain but they didn’t do half as much as cars do today. Cars today are about convenience and comfort as much as they are a means of transportation.
