I accidentally left my car battery on boost overnight as I was interrupted and forgot to turn it off the charger has overcharge protection I’m worried it might explode will it be ok ?

Is it a lead acid battery?

@hippyjoe1955 yeah I think so

@Mattbennet Lead acid batteries only explode from the hydrogen produced while charging. Shut off the charger, let the hydrogen dissipate and then disconnect the charger cables. There should be no issue. There likely is no hydrogen present already since a lead acid battery only takes so much charge. If you are wondering simply remove one of the caps and have a look inside. If you see bubbles or bubbling the battery is still charging and still putting out hydrogen. While you have the cap off look to see if the battery needs water. If the fluid is below the bottom of the filler necks the battery could use some distilled water. DO NOT OVER FILL! Fill only until the fluid reaches the bottom of the filler necks.

@hippyjoe1955 true, I'd check all the cells to be sure none boiled off.

@hippyjoe1955 I know but its1:00 here in the U.K. it’s in the workshop the chargers left on boost I dunno if by overcharge protection means it reduces the voltage or blows a fuse

@Virgo79 I think it’s a sealed battery

@Mattbennet possible, but some still can have water added.
Not all

@Mattbennet I hope you had a good nights sleep and realize now that your fears did not happen. Do you know why the lead acid battery is still used in ICE vehicles? They don't explode when they are charged for hours on end by the alternator.
