@YourMomsSecretCrush We had a mean bus driver when I was in 6th-7th grade. He was a college student but had a mean mouth and insulted a lot of us. One day he did it to my friend’s brother, who also had a smart mouth. He was about 16 and smarted back to the bus driver. The bus driver pulled over on the side of the road and said he would fight him. They both got out and we watched them fight. Another time the driver got mad at another teen boy and kicked him off the bus in the country several miles from home. Both those incidents would get the schools sued now. And another time this same bus driver slammed on the brakes and one of the boys hit his mouth on the back of the metal bar over the seat in front of him, got off the bus crying because it hurt so bad.
@cherokeepatti they actually had high school students driving the busses when i was a kid....... they stopped that after so many busses being involved in wrecks.

@YourMomsSecretCrush I don’t ever remember them hiring high school students. Maybe not legal to do that in Oklahoma. I knew a farm wife that did it. Took care of the farm and house stuff between the two shifts.

The last bad storm we had, many schools cancelled, but some just delayed for two hours. One bus slid into the ditch.
I'd rather schools called off than buses in ditches.

@SW-User I’ve been on 3 school buses that slid into a ditch. The first one in first grade and frost on the road next to a deep drainage ditch. The bus slid off and was almost sideways. The bus driver walked to the emergency door and opened it. Told us he was going to call for another bus, had to walk a distance to a house to use the phone. He told the big boys to help get us little kids out. I couldn’t stand up because the bus was leaned over so much. The boys picked us up and carried us to the exit and we got out and had to scramble up the muddy embankment. We all looked like little muddy pigs and went to school that way on the other bus they sent for us.
