Our crossing is decided, and we are setting off shortly. Edoardo is at the helm because Angelo is asleep, since he will be our night watch. I have no idea about sailing in wide open seas, I have only sailed in coastal waters with my brother in a skiff dinghy ⛵.
We are suitably sunscreen soaked and enjoying the sun. It got into the mid thirties yesterday so we have been in the cabin a lot too, getting out of the high heat like we did in Sicily. Chiara is very happy with this holiday, even if it’s not one she can be super active on.
Encourage Chiara to spend a little time on deck in the darkness.
Apart from enjoying the cool night air, she can learn from Angelo what the different lights on other boats or ships mean, how a sailor identifies other vessels and their direction of travel, and also start to understand navigation.
She is the perfect age to turn curiosity into knowledge.
