There is definitely a need for a 1968 chevy 1/4 ton truck with crank windows, no AC, and manual transmission on the steering column.

I rebuilt EVERYTHING on my 30 year old Jeep. Engine, trans, bearings, suspension...
Best decision! Everyone else's vehicle shuts down, or locks them out (😆), I haven't had an issue in years, just regular maintainence.
Even has an COMPLETE Linux PC installed in it, with GPS! 🤓😆 Just for shits & giggles. I can stop anywhere and watch movies, or whatever. My "Updated" version beats the hell out of every other vehicle on the road.
I own it, insurance is cheap. 🤷‍♂

Have you had your previous vehicles undercoated?
Rabscuttle · 41-45
I have, over the last few years, come to believe that there has somehow been a change in pickup trucks; instead of simply paying dollars, you're required to also pay in the parts of your brain that allow for interpersonal empathy (which is why they think nothing of driving around on public roads with million-candlepower headlights, endangering the health and lives of everyone on or adjacent to the road) as well as those governing proprioception (which is why they're seemingly unable to park within the lines of a parking space).

If you're just trying to pay in dollars, it's no wonder it didn't work.

@Rabscuttle BIG NEW WORD ALERT!!
GoFish ·
you have to buy an older truck if you want a basic truck without high tech ****

are you driving through puddles or salted snow roads? why are your cars rusting out?
VTinlandsea · 56-60, M
@GoFish LOL no kidding! Problem is that when you're dealing with road salt in the winter anything more than 10 years old doesn't exist (or it's all rotted out) and bringing one in from down south cost more than it's worth. We use ALOT of salt on the roads here in winter....like A LOT!
GoFish ·
@VTinlandsea oh maybe you need to spray that bed-liner undercoating stuff on it next time?? or does that help?
Musicman · 61-69, M
I looked at a two year old Raptor Bronco for $59k. That's half off.

You won't find any American-made vehicle that won't rot out from salt. It's because of the body pre-rust treatment they DO NOT receive at the manufacturer right at the factory! That part they try and sell you at point of original sale and then charge you $100 per year to get the vehicle re-sprayed for rust prevention.

The only vehicles on the road today that are warrantied against rust for at least 10 years or 100,000 miles is Audi and Volkswagen.

Both are dipped in a rust-preventive 'bath' at the factory where the entire body and frame are submerged before any interior or engine components are installed, just the body and frame including the doors, hood and trunk lid with no interior fabric or plastic installed get hot dipped into a giant vat.

Those vehicles show no rust whatsoever long after 10 years of winter driving where lots of road salt is used.
